Things you need before you can create a sellers account

Other than already having or finding the perfect product to sell on Amazon (there will be more tutorials in regard to finding and selling of the actual product) there are a few other things that sometimes get overlooked but are needed in order to be able to sell on Amazon.

1. Legal Business Name
Amazon is going to require you to already have a legal business name remember to register this name with the IRS your EIN and other tax information is going to be needed before you can create your amazon sellers account so make sure to already have this set in store before you start to sell.

2. Bank Account
This is important how else are you going to be able to receive and make payments for your products and other fees associated with selling on Amazon. When creating an account Amazon will ask you for a card number to keep on file along with the business address and bank account/routing number so be prepared to have this information available when you go and create an account.

(If you created a new bank account some banks will take a few weeks before they issue your debit or credit card, so keep that in mind because you are going to need the card information)

If you are just starting your own business I would advise setting up a business bank account this will make it easier keeping track of all the incoming and outgoing of your payments. You can use your personal account if you plan on only selling a few items but it will make things easier, in the long run, to already have an account.

3. Personal Information
Well, this is obvious but Amazon will want to know who you are before they allow you to sell. You should have an email account that you are going to use for your business and make sure that your address matches up with what you have registered.

Amazon now requires you to set up two-step verification, so it is important to set this up on your mobile phone. It will make it easier when you try to log in on a new device like when working from home or checking sales on someone else’s computer. Amazon will send you a code to verify that it is you trying to log into your account and if you didn’t set it up on your mobile phone it will make it harder for you to access that account.

4. Tax Information
Yes, you or your business will have to submit your tax information to Amazon in order for them to create your account. You are going to need a W-9 or W-8BEN, Social Security Number (if you are filing as a Sole Proprietorship) or your copies EIN ( Federal Tax ID number)

Remember Amazon reports your tax information to the IRS as they are required by law to do so. But it is your responsibility to pay and submit your tax information.

Final Checklist:

• Legal business name either set up a DBA or Create an LLC. Also, have an address and other contact information.
• A valid email address which is easily accessible. Your email address will be used to verify your account.
• Credit Card / Debit that is internationally chargeable. All Credit/ Debit cards must have a valid billing address.
• A personal phone number. I recommend using a mobile phone where you can receive text messages as this will be used for 2 step verification.
• Your tax information
